The little podunk zone shoots in my state might have more shooters. Good for those that go I guess. Big name wasted on a failed shoot. jmho
I guess there must be another one of those MOU things allowing the ATA to manage the U. S. Open Tournament. From the E. C. Minutes :
I don't understand why it's a problem for the ATA to run this shoot. Where was the US Open held before the WSRC was built? Who ran it?
You might want to ponder this.......Why doesnt the ATA give the fees to the Illinois State Association? It is in the State of Illinois right? Or ponder this .......Why did they have to reschedule last year? Or ponder this .......Why is a "shooting event" in a gun hate state? Or ponder this .......Why does the ATA have to give bonus All American points to get someone even marginal attendance? Or ponder this .......Wouldn't the shoot be better if it were held at Brittany? -------- Never mind.....no one cares. Well maybe the on campus owner of the gun shop. Oh yeah, that guy, the guy that is the director. He cares. LOLOLOL dummies
I wonder how it is that the IDNR can stipulate terms to the ATA that mandate no daily fees for the Illinois State Association? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we shooters pay daily State Association fees at satellite Grands? I am not a Sparta hater and I'm glad to see a trapshoot scheduled there as I never want to see a trap facility closed. Just wondering why the ATA would agree to some of the terms dictated by the IDNR? Mandating a comp factor of 4 would seem to be contrary and degrading to the ATA's high opinion of their "all holy" All American point system. Wasn't the US Open an IDNR shoot in previous years? Why would the ATA want to step in and run this or any shoot other than the Grand American? As I stated above, I'm happy that the shoot is scheduled, but it sure looks to me like the ATA is taking this one on the chin and setting themselves up for future butt whippings if they agree to these terms.
I believe the IDNR request was that no fees would go to the state association. The whole state of Illinois doesn't hate guns, just Chicago. Brittany is still in Illinois.
Win 101, I attended the US open at Sparta in 2006. I do not remember a shoot called that prior to that shoot. It was not a large shoot at that time, but I drove from Phoenix to attend it. Roger C.
I don't believe the IDNR gave any stipulations with the exception of just two understandable requirements. I suspect the IDNR simply asked the ATA to handle the 2017 U. S. Open shoot because they could not. Therefore, those bullet points in the ATA minutes were most likely generated by someone within the ATA. Read them again and decide if the IDNR would ask for anything other than the $3 paid entry and management of camping reservations. The IDNR doesn't care if the ISTA receives daily fees or not. They don't care where the ATA gets the management or hired help. They don't care what shoot software is used and they certainly don't care what competition factor the ATA uses for this tournament. Someone within the ATA made the decision to exclude ISTA daily fees. The important question is if the ISTA was first informed, and did they agree to accept the condition regarding no State fees prior to the ATA accepting (in the August minutes) the responsibility to manage the shoot. The Illinois State Trapshooting Association either agreed or they are steaming over the decision. I guess the facts may come out at some point. The U. S. Open was an ATA shoot, one of 3 required in the original agreement between the IDNR & ATA. Somehow this management of this tournament was transferred to the IDNR. I've read communications by ATA officials who seemed to believe the U. S. Open was owned and trademark protected by the IDNR. I believe this view is incorrect, because prior to the first inaugural U. S. Open shoot (July 6-9, 2006), the ATA filed for trademark protection of the shoot's name and logo. I don't know if they ever completed their process for ownership.
WRONG!!!! Southern Illinois voted for gun hater and felon Governor Blagojevich. Blago gave the opening ceremony speech in front of the S Illinois crowd. They swooned with the rest of the EC. Blago then left the event and continued his gun hate tour. That felon Blago that was elected by southern Illinois then gutted the IDNR. Thanks to Southern Illinois for swooning over their gun hating leader. We can be sure 101 was amongst the southern Illini crowd at the WSRC chanting BLAGO, BLAGO, BLAGO!
Of course you are correct Win101. The other poster is just attempting to spin counties voting for a democrat automatically means those residents are "gun haters" and it is simply absurd. It is like saying that any state that the democrats carried consists only of residents that hate guns. The fact of the matter is that gun ownership in Illinois, and in particular the southern counties of Illinois, are bucking the national trend as reported today. http://www.news-gazette.com/news/lo...rship-growing-illinois-fading-nationally.html
TrapperMike, I knew better but there are some folks that have their thoughts and beliefs and if yours aren't the same they will berate you. I've attended the US Open the last several years with our youth team. We usually shoot the 200 singles event. Good warmup for our State Shoots.
And there you have it ladies and gents... Illinois is no longer a gun hate state. Fact is southern Illinois voted felon Blagojevich, the great gun hater, into office. The great socialist gun hating State of Illinois, and home of Obama has change it's stripes???? I can hear the chants from the WSRC at the grand opening....Blago, Bravo Blago!
The only thing I would like to see is the red or black ink from ANY "ATA" involvement. Not just some year end numbers all lumped together. If ..... they(ATA) can keep their play-land in black ink, let them have at it. But, the red line starts with red ink .....
Cloverdale, Ohio had 89 entrees last Sunday for their monthly meat shoot. No ATA, no All american points, oh and they only have 2 trap fields. The US open in Sparta will have about twice the shooters and 100 times the trap fields. (This is assuming the state of Illinois doesn't close them down first) Which club is doing better? Brad
According to HistoryBuff, the US Open was 1 of 3 events the ATA was to hold yearly per the original agreement. Since the WSRC is the ATA's current homeground, that is where the shoot is held. If they did move it to somewhere like Brittany doesn't mean it would draw more people. JMHO
I was guessing it had to do with the exec director being a permanent vendor there. And Gipson might not make as much money? And the biggest reason to have a shoot in the gun hate state--felon and gun hater Blagojevich wants it that way.
Get over it, Smithy. Blagojevich has absolutely nothing to do with it! He is nobody. His buddy Obama didn't even pardon him when he had the chance! Gipson moved from Kansas City area when he took the job offer from the ATA. Little to far to commute daily between KC and Sparta. Why wouldn't he move his gun shop with him? Only makes sense. I doubt he gets any special rate for renting a space on vendors row. So what if he does? The Gipson/Ricketts lead reclamation business I would imagine is being handled by Steve Ricketts as he didn't move to Sparta. I can tell you weren't in favor of the ATA's move from Vandalia to Sparta and the WSRC, but they did. Unless they absolutely shut down the WSRC, that is where they're going to stay, like it or not. You can complain all you want but it doesn't mean a "Rat's Ass!"
Actually I dont care that it is there 101. It is a small shoot in an anti gun state. Study your history a bit a you will find that Blago was the force behind WSRC. For that reason anti gun politician Blago gave the opening ceremony speech. The ata has no choice but to stay at the wsrc. What other state wants the above corruption? Not OH or PA. This group is so corrupt they screwed over the ista. No wonder it is no bigger than a meat shoot in PA or OH
Just an embarrassingly small shoot with a big time name. Gipson may sell a few extra bags of shot and wads to the few limited participants. Who cares but it may be advisable to bring a lawnmower from home-just in case!
This was true initially, however the Spring and Fall tournaments are apparently no longer a contractual requirement for the ATA. The only tournament required by the current lease agreement is the Grand American. I should have provided the update. The IDNR has been hosting the U. S. Open for several years now, but as I've stated, the ATA reportedly hired an attorney to seek trademark protection for the logo and tournament name they (ATA) created.
And to support my claim about the ATA obtaining both tradename and logo protection on the U. S. Open, it was reported in the July 2006 issue of Trap & Field on page 123.
