The 1784 entries in the 2016 GAH Event was 34 higher than the number of entries at the 1950 Grand American Handicap. ______________________________________________
Merlo, Is this the fantastic direction the sport of trap shooting is headed? Sad is it not. Every shooter should ask the leaders why? and what do you think should be done to remedy this sad situation. History Buff, I hope you are documenting all of this. If we do have a future, it should document who was in charge when the s$$t hit the fan. Just a list of who received guns is not enough. Roger C.
WELL SHUCKS ! The ATA report I got from their web site stated 1,745 total shooters in event #24, GAH for 2016. http://www.shootata.com/Portals/0/pdf/results/2016/Trophy_Report_GRAND.pdf Gee, I don't mean to rain on Merlo's parade by any means as he is the best putting out our information, but according to the numbers that were reported for Event #24 on the ATA, 2016 GAH results, I see the record was set by MINUS 5 shooters at 1,745 shooters. But we all know the ATA records could be wrong...Only reporting what I see, as I see it. My apologies if I missed something, and PLEASE correct me if I used the wrong figures...
The GAH was not the leading event at this years Grand in entries. GB.....................................DLS
Flyer, I can't find the 1784 number anywhere I have looked, and I tried not to post any false information... I wonder IF the ATA results I posted in the link was a TYPO ??? IF MERLO wrote about it, I know he had seen it somewhere. ON second thought, I do remember reading where there were several shooters had registered to shoot the event #24, but for some reason did not... That may be where the difference in numbers is. Signed up shooters, verses the Actual Number who shot. Or perhaps it's one of Hillary's lies...LOL
OK, upon wasting more time attempting to figure out the 30,000 shooters reported to the press, I decided to add all the total shooters for both preliminary week and Grand American Week for 2016. Here are the TOTALS: Prelim week, all events = 14,324 Grand Week, all events= 15,529 TOTAL FOR ALL 24 EVENTS = 29,853 These numbers were taken directly from the ATA, 2016 Grand American results on their web site... Right or wrong, these are their numbers.
It was not just that they were reported to the press....that 30,000 number was how many the ATA said were already at the shoot to compete by the second preliminary day. (WSIL TV) 30,000 was the preliminary number that would certainly grow! 15,000 were staying in the campsites alone. This is a brilliant way to get more tax dollars from Illinois. SUCKERS!
FG, Ya gotta love the way they come up with the numbers... 30,000 "AT" the shoot.... Must have been a heck of a lot of spectators ! 15 people per camp site... WOW, they must have had outsiders sleeping under the campers in their sleeping bags.
Hey guys, I was there shooting in that handicap. There were big dark clouds & everyone knew it was going to rain. We had a shower in the 3rd box, finished before the big dump came. The cars, trailers, buses were steady rolling out of town. I know a lot of them did not stay to shoot the Cap. It did pour down rain before we got out of Sparta.
Like many other shoots. If I was confronted with that long drive from Sparta I'd have done the same thing It's not like a few hundred locals made the trip like they did in Vandalia!
RECORD???? I have shot at over 50 Grands. The best year was when a Canadian was selected as ATA president, early 70's, I well remember squad 1000 being on the Big Board in front of the Main Entry Building.
Tarpmaker, You apparently were not around in the glory days of trap shooting. We in Arizona had chain shoots as big as the Grand is now. We are loosing shooters at an alarming rate. The ATA has no program in place to encourage new registered shooters. Sporting Clays does. The ATA exec's are so busy covering their a$$es over past transgressions that they have paid no attention as to what is happening to the organization. It is a case of the blind leading the blind and this may be the lessor of the evils. It is not only the EC and BOD, the problem goes back to a bunch of spineless delegates. They act as a rubber stamp for many of the nefarious actions taken by the higher ups. Roger C.
FG, I did not have my sarcasm switch in the on position. I think my answer was a pretty good description of the leaders of the ATA. Roger C,
