Just for your interest. Moskeet trap could be purchased as a kit with a Mossberg Targo T42 smootbore rifle. I have the rifle with a attached thrower on the gun and a case of targets.

have you ever seen the target pistol launcher and the catch net?
you could get a 22 adapter to attach on the end to make it a 22 rifle too. mine had it. (see pic)

A good friend of mine introduced me to Moskeet about 20 years ago. We didn't have the original targets. We were using the sporting mini. Thought it was really fun. Always wondered the origin of it.

Yes I was aware of a Moskeet pistol.

The NSSA/NSCA museum has a targo rifle like the one I have. I bought the rifle from a very friend in 1970

I do have the rifle barrel.

Thanks for the picture same gun as mine.

All good information and feed back.

I live in Reno. We had a great gun club years ago "Sage Hill" it used to host the Golden West Trap Shoot. Now it is full of Town Houses. Anyway I had the gun and trap in the pro shop on display for the shoot. A few days after the shoot I went in the shop to pick-up my gun and trap but n the trap wasn't there, I panic I ask Tom in the pro shop where was my trap ? He said a VP from Federal saw my trap and he took back to Federal headquarters so the Federal machine shop so they could duplicate some of the parts for a trap they had a few weeks later I got it back. I was not happy about my trap being shipped across the country.

Winchester made a mini multiple chamber Moskeet auto trap, a friend of mine had one, only one I ever seen. He wanted $2500.00 30 years ago.

    Joe,

Your trap appears to be a MOSKEETO Model 80 trap used in the back yard for individual or family use, patented and sold by Rutledge Mfg. I've seen advertisements for the MOSKEETO traps which included MOSKEETO shotguns made by Rutledge. A single shot sold for $21.95 in 1950 and the MOSKEETO repeater sold for $54.95. I have never seen them advertised with the MOSSBERG Model 42TR so I'd appreciate any information on that.

The MOSSBERG TARGO Trap and Targets did have a kit that contained the catch net but again, I've never seen a net advertised with the MOSKEETO and would appreciate having an advertisement for my files. The MOSSBERG rifle was included in that kit.

Truly appreciate you posting the picture. I keep files on what I call "backyard traps" and would like to store a picture of your trap if permitted.

    Enjoy Our Sport,

    HB

Yes the 22 shotgun shell will break the more fragile Mo-Skeet target. My understanding these fragile targets were shot in doors. Winchester made a mini auto trap. My brother and I used my 22 Targo rifle with attached target launcher to break the now rare Mo-Skeet targets. I have a couple Remington/Rutledge smooth bore 22 guns. Rutledge worked for Remington.

Here is a picture of the Mo-skeet targets. The unwrapped targets were covered with a news paper that talked about the 1968 Ford Torino.

I think the question was, will a .22 shotshell break a SPORTING MINI. You know, as in a Mini one would should on today's Sporting Clays course.

1964, Boy Scout camp Semiconon, NW Pennsylvania. Long gone now.
They had a MoSkeet machine anchored to a 3-foot-tall stump and threw the targets across a small creek. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was like 5 targets for a quarter. They had an old parachute opened and hung from tall poles so any target that was missed landed in the parachute and was picked up later to be used again.

I was there for 2 weeks and spent every extra minute there or up on the .22 rifle range.

    How cool was that !!!!

Last Sunday the Capital City Gun Club in Carson City Nevada had a youth sportsman's day, fly fishing, archery, trapshooting, BB- guns, many conservation groups, rock climbing etc etc the event was WELL attended. What was really cool for the youngest kids was that they had some clay targets hanging from a crossing pole and they were teaching the kids how to shoot a rifle, the kids were shooting Savage Crickets smooth bores from a bench at about 7 or 8 yards what a great idea ! All the kids would laugh and cheer when the target broke. If it didn't break they would show the kids the pellet hits on the target.

Okay, check this out, my youngest grand kid is now 11 years old when he was about 7 years old and he wanted to shoot clay targets but even the youth shotguns were to big for him so I got one of smooth bores rifles out for him and we started shooting balloons, he was hooked on shooting moving targets, and now at 11 he is breaking in the 80s on the trap field with a 20 gauge youth 391 Beretta. Our private club in Gardnerville, Nv. Let's junior shooters shoot for free.

Start a very young shooter with a Savage Cricket smooth bore 22 bird shot and balloons ! Should I register balloon shooting as a game I invented ?
