Has there ever been much talk about having an option to only shoot the first or last 100 on a 200 target event?
As the trapshooting community seems to have more older members, Most just do not shoot on 200 days. Some clubs have told us that we can shoot 100, BUT, must pay for The 200, not a very good deal is it? However, some very fair clubs, particularly the shoots run by our Terrific Florida delegate Larry G. allow us to shoot 100 and not be Penalized. It's better to throw 100 targets than 0, and the life blood Of trapshooting is is throwing targets. New York is one of those older friendly states (Cicero) My favorite shooting day used to be 200, but I just cannot do it any more. Greta c
Every place I've shot will let anyone shoot 100 targets of a 200 event and only charge for the 100. The club doesn't make any money if they don't throw the birds.
FG Several State shoots and I've only been to Sparta once so I couldn't answer that part of the question. jb63 is also correct, no options, no lewis for the event.
Great information for a person looking to experience the big shoot and not having to pay the big bucks. Leonidas, what are those state shoots you attend that have this?
Why are you so interested in where I shoot? You have ask on several occasions and I have given you an answer. I really don't want you to know. I would be willing to bet any State organization you call could tell you the information want.
Goes to your cred Leonidas. Surely you would want to help your fellow shooters find the state shoots you have attended that have a 200 bird event with the option of shooting 100 and only charging for 100. This is of course if the giant rabbit is real. So how about it Leonidas.....tell us the state shoots you attend that offer this.
Sure. And that group of friends regularly shoots at an Ikes that throws 3 hole targets as you earlier posted and they attend these state shoots that have 2oo bird programs but have an option to shoot 1oo and pay only for 100? As you said... We all know they exist. The giant rabbit shoots there too.
You guys make it sound like its a great idea all the time, and I disagree. I'm not sure I'd like to have my squad dropping from full to some smaller number for the second hundred, especially at important shoots. It's a 200 target event, not a social gathering. At smaller shoots maybe ok, but it would still be a detriment unless everyone agreed to it up front.
I personally feel we only need to shoot 100 singles, same results with a 200 bird event. Make angles wider and call them SUPER SINGLES. Gary Bryant...............Dr.longshot
timk, If you do that I don't think I'd have an issue. BUT, I see that as one of those things that sounds so easy when typing on the website, but creates a lot of headaches when you actually have to run the shoot. Maybe I'm wrong.
Even number squads 200 targets, odd numbers 100 targets, no more problem ... With the computer programs they have today nothing is impossible though some clubs won't like it because they make money by putting birds (targets) in the air ... The older people get and as physical restrictions set in some people just cannot shoot 200 bird events anymore and that number is growing every year, lets all hope and pray it continues as we our self age (not me of course) but the others ... That could and probably should be a viable option to entice more seniors to compete, though it would probably make to much sense in the long run (no pun intended) ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I've told you before I didn't want you to know where I shot so the rabbit says "Thats all the info you're gonna get".
Wait till you all get to be my age, i probably won't be around then. At that time remember this discussion. And wait till you have shot as long as I have and shot as many targets as I have. This is my final Posting on this topic. Greta c
FG, you haven't made any comments on this yet so I thought perhaps you hadn't seen it. Just wanted to make sure you did as you seemed very concerned about where these shoots were. I also found that CA and NV will allow 100 targets to be shot in 200 target events. Their programs aren't as clear as WI's above though and one state (I can't recall which one) might restrict it to SJ/J only. If you want the proof you'll have to find the programs on line. Mr Rabbit
Thanks Mr. Rabbit. The 100 of 200 shoots are a great idea. I still wonder tho why someone claiming to attend as many of this type shoot (Leonidas) could not name any of them. None?! Quite perplexing. It is good you could provide some of these shoot names. Otherwise a prudent person may think Leonidas may not shoot at all. As long as we have you providing the shoot venues for him then we can assume he is being factual and shoots these places regularly. Although they seem to be news to him. Which is not news to me.
The Great Lakes Grand and the Michigan State shoot as well as the S.D. State shoot all allow a shooter to shoot 100 birds of the 200 bird events. This is a management decision .. not an ATA rule. Any gun club, any state organization can allow this. The only exception I have heard of is Bubba won't allow it for the shoots that he cashiers. But I'm pretty sure if the club said he had to then it would be at the shoots he works also. This is a win /win for the club. .. bird in the air is money in the pocket!
If you sign up for the 1oo targets at a 200 target event and after shooting the 100 birds you decide you would like to shoot the total 200 can you do that?
At a local shoot with 50 or less people shooting then no problem but at a shoot with 50 or more participants and Zone,State, Satellite Grand or Grand then no you cannot shoot it. You will just have to sit it out. It's competition and pulling people in and out of squads are a distraction. Plus those wanting only to shoot 100 are interfering with those seeking positions on a squad as close to their ideal requirements as possible. If you can't shoot the program then don't shoot. Sit back, relax and enjoy the day and when there is a program you can shoot then shoot it. And before any of you get your panties in a wad understand this. I shoot form a wheelchair and know I have to pace my shooting and take breaks to rest up. I just can't shoot 300 birds a day anymore. I have to plan breaks in my shooting to rest up if I intend to shoot the Championship Singles,Doubles and Handicap at a shoot. Don't like it but it's the reality that I now have to deal with.
Not trying to start an argument.. but you are wrong on this one. I have worked the computer room for the last 4 years at MI for the GLG and their state shoot .. and the SD state shoot... and you can choose to shoot 100 of the 200 bird events if you choose at these shoots.
It's like running 50 yards of a 100 yard dash. Makes no sense. If you cannot shoot the 200 then don't shoot it.
It's a matter of dollars for the club.. if the shooter wants to shoot.. let them. No harm no foul, they can't win a trophy so it's a plus. I've never been able to understand how or why a gun club would refuse to make money... For the scoring it's a 5 second fix in the file to report it properly.. any good cashier would do it without question. We don't have customers beating our doors down to shoot.. so customer satisfaction should be #1 at any gun club. Anything less is digging your own grave.
Lady T, Obviously you are stating your opinion as it has been made clear that there are states that provide for this activity. I will state, if you can't handle the simple distraction of converting from a 5 person squad to a 4 person squad you should just sit it out. That situation can happen for a variety of reasons.
Should not be such a big deal regardless of the size of the shoot. It could be done much like Indiana does the assignments for late registration. You would have designated squads that are for 100 bird shooters only. You do not get a choice of banks etc. You get the next position available. You shoot for targets only. Hard to believe someone got a lifetime achievement award for making targets easier. The 200 bird boring event is a big reason the other games are growing.
The ATA used to have over 3,000 in the singles at the grand? How is that working out? The ATA lost 2/3 of its members. Sporting Clays is growing. ATA is dying a slow death. Do they have more now than before Neil's lifetime achievement? Strange a graph showing the before and after effects of the NW targets never get posted.
The handicap events were hurt even worse than the singles events. It is not as if the singles caught up. The competition shoot (where the money was) died. Lots of reasons. Easier targets and hotter shells sent scores up. 90 is no longer considered a good score. Not even an atta boy. Add the one time 2 yard reduction that was awarded a second time. The singles became the other shoot that requires perfect scores. It used to be a perfect score on the handicap was only seen at the grand and sometimes not even there. Only a few times before the targets were changed was a perfect score shot at the GAH from the 27. Now we have a super singles event from the 18. Who would have thunk it?
