I dropped by the Cardinal Center to get some of the latest news. I spoke with the Sporting Clays manager. He said they will be building a new course this winter. It will be east of the previous 2 courses. It will have a 4 acre lake/pond. I am thinking this will eliminate a lot of tree background. I could not find Jake. I think he saw me first. I asked about the other projects and he said those are "Jack's Projects."
FG, Did you ask about where the new traps will be located? How about a new building for all of the ATA exects. to relax in while the Grand is in progress. How about a new HOF building is Jack still OK with that? Roger C.
The HOF in Sparta appears to be dormant and with the shooting shut down and possibly being an annual event on a temporary basis the folks should consider taking the Bull by the Horns and build a HOF building for shooters from Ohio, Penn, etc. that would care to be a part of it ...This might seem to be somewhat drastic to some but will make perfect sense to many others when all is said and done ... There is more than one Museum of Science and Industry (biggest in Chgo, Ill) Automobile, sports, etc, all sins offs of the originals and they seem to work and do not have to cost $2 millions dollars to build ... I would think many shooters would donate to make it happen if it was in a location available to people without driving through the Twilight zone to a place that never was a place, until someone said, "thats the place" ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
I doubt whether anything more on the Trap side will happen other than a new Vendors building. Word was they had most of it leased, one of which is Guns Unlimited, which will be a great asset IMO. I like Roger's ideas, but there is probably too much pride to swallow for it to happen. Regards....Gerald
That is the new boarding house in Sparta for Syrian refugees in Illinois, there will be truck loads of Porta Potties Coming. GB...........................DLS
Makes one wonder who will be on the hook for the funds to finish the construction of THOF museum for the State of Illinois. Very Sad Situation indeed for those of us who had so much looked forward to a happy and healthy future of the THOF. I would have loved to have been there to witness the GRAND opening of that museum with ALL of it's fine trapshooting artifacts, including the pictures of the GREATS like Brad. I really do mean this sincerely when I say "The Greats". Brad had a real passion for the game back when. He and the others earned their way, and it's sad to see their pictures stored away like all of the other things that we wanted to once again see. Now all we have to look forward to, from what I can tell, is an empty bank account for the THOF, without the funds to secure another building when necessary. Although I could not give donations that some could, I still did donate what I could. Today, my annual donations have gone elsewhere. It still baffles my imagination as to how a group of intelligent men on the THOF Board could have signed off this building to the ownership of the State of Illinois. As we sit in Limbo now, all we can hope for is something to happen in the future that will once again allow us to see the history of Trapshooting in a nice place rather than a storage unit somewhere in Ohio.
