FWIW I have owned two of that model gun in years past. I seem to remember that a regular 870 trap barrel could be installed and only the cap that the magazine spring is retained by needed changing. This does cancel out the recoil piston function which I felt was more difficult to clean than an 1100. I never felt that the Comp model shot any softer than an 1100. Pretty gun but still consider it Remington's Edsel.
